High-dose vitamin D3 supplementation during pregnancy may positively influence offspring cognitive development, according to research from the University of Copenhagen. Following 700 mother-child pairs from pregnancy week 24 to one week postpartum, children exposed to high-dose vitamin D3 (2800 IU/day) showed significantly higher scores in verbal memory (β=0.17), visual memory (β=0.24), and cognitive flexibility (β=0.19) at age 10 compared to those exposed to standard-dose (400 IU/day). This post hoc analysis of a randomized clinical trial strengthens evidence on the association between prenatal vitamin D exposure and childhood cognition, highlighting the importance of prenatal nutritional care.
